Mailman School of Public Health Meet-up & Lecture by Columbia Professor Dr. Stephen Morse - October 22, 2015

On Thursday, October 22nd, the Columbia Club of Atlanta and Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health jointly hosted a Public Health Alumni meet-up followed by a fascinating and informative lecture "Tangled Web: The Intersection of Science and Public Policy in the Prevention and Treatment of Global Infectious Diseases" given by Columbia Professor Dr. Stephen Morse.

The lecture covered historical as well as contemporary public policy reactions to disease outbreaks and their effects and included discussion of the recent Ebola scare in the United States. Did you know in that in 1976, Dr. William Close, a Columbia P&S graduate and father of famed actress Glenn Close, witnessed and helped contain the first ebola outbreak in Zaire? T

This event was held at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Many thanks to Professor Morse for his excellent lecture and to Columbia Club of Atlanta members Julie Fishman, Maria Doiranlis and Roxann Smithers for all their efforts to arrange this event.
