Join author and Columbia Club of Atlanta member Parul Kapur for an evening at the Georgia Center for the Book to celebrate her critically acclaimed debut novel, INSIDE THE MIRROR, which won the AWP Prize for the Novel, and will be published by the University of Nebraska Press on March 1. Parul will be in conversation with renowned author Jessica Handler. INSIDE THE MIRROR, a story of twin sister artists coming of age in mid-century India, received a starred review from Publisher's Weekly, which called it a "stunning debut novel." As India struggles to remake its identity in the devastating aftermath of British rule, the twins struggle to forge their identities as creators in the face of familial objections and societal shaming. The wrenching conflict between female independence and familial devotion lies at the heart of INSIDE THE MIRROR.

Parul was born in Assam, India and raised in Connecticut. Her fiction appears in Ploughshares, Pleiades, Prime Number and elsewhere. She has contributed articles and reviews to The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal Europe, Esquire, Slate, Guernica and The Paris Review, among others. She was a press officer at the United Nations in New York, and worked as a reporter at the city magazine Bombay in India. She holds an MFA from Columbia University and lives in Atlanta.
